DVM, Residency-Trained in Internal Medicine

Vanessa Emming

A native Kansan, Dr. Emming earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Newman University, followed by her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Kansas State University. She then completed a rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Memphis Veterinary Specialists. After gaining valuable clinical experience as an emergency veterinarian for nearly 2 years and a general practitioner for 8 years, Dr. Emming pursued her passion for internal medicine through a specialty internship at Nashville Veterinary Specialists. She recently completed her small animal internal medicine residency at Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2025 and is on track for board certification through the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine. In addition, she is working toward a Master of Science in Veterinary and Biomedical Science with a concentration in veterinary medical research.

Dr. Emming’s clinical interests include endocrine diseases, gastrointestinal disorders, and immune-mediated conditions. She is an active member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine. Her current research, in collaboration with Mississippi State faculty, focuses on evaluating the function of a specific immunosuppressant drug in healthy dogs.

Inspired by research during her early academic years highlighting the human health benefits of the human-animal bond, Dr. Emming was drawn to veterinary medicine as a way to enhance the lives of both pets and their people. Outside of the hospital, she enjoys traveling and photographing nature, gardening, and spending time with her partner, whether relaxing at home or enjoying the vibrant music and theater scene in the area.
