Stacy Friesen

Dr. Stacy Friesen earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine in Knoxville. Following graduation, she completed a rotating internship at Michigan State University before completing a three-year surgical residency and earning her master’s degree at Kansas State University. Dr. Friesen was drawn to surgery as a meaningful way to use her skills to care for animals while loving and serving the people in her community.

Dr. Friesen joined the Mission Veterinary Emergency & Specialty team in August 2020. Her clinical interests include advanced soft tissue surgery, with particular interests in subcutaneous ureteral bypass (SUB) procedures, complex thoracic and abdominal surgery, and minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery.

In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Friesen has a passion for teaching and mentoring the next generation of veterinary surgeons. In the summer of 2023, she became Program Director of the surgical residency program. The three-year program includes four surgical residents and provides rigorous training in the diagnosis, surgical treatment, and postoperative management of animals with surgical diseases.

Dr. Friesen lives in Olathe, Kansas, with her husband and two children, along with their golden retriever, Bailey, and cat, Alice. Outside of the hospital, she enjoys spending time with family, hosting friends, being involved in her church, and staying active outdoors.

In both her professional and personal life, Dr. Friesen anchors her heart in the truth of 2 Thessalonians 3:5: “May the Lord direct your hearts to the love of God and to the steadfastness of Christ.”
