Sarah Hayes

Dr. Sarah Hayes is a board-certified criticalist with specialized training in small animal emergency and critical care. Originally from southern Oregon, she earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Oregon before completing her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at Kansas State University, where she also met her husband.

Following graduation, Dr. Hayes completed a small animal rotating internship at VCA South Shore Weymouth in Massachusetts and spent several years working in emergency medicine. Her passion for managing complex and unstable patients led her back into advanced training, where she completed a three-year Emergency & Critical Care residency at the University of Tennessee. She became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care (DACVECC) in 2025.

Dr. Hayes’ clinical interests include sepsis, shock, dysnatremias, and endocrine emergencies. She has a publication accepted by the Journal of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care (JVECC). She also lectures nationally, including her presentation at the 2026 MVCC, “Recognition and Stabilization of Shock.”

Outside of the hospital, Dr. Hayes enjoys relaxing with her pittie, Gaia, her cat, Ori, and her husband, as well as diving into home renovation projects and woodworking.
