DVM, MPH, Residency Trained in Internal Medicine
Ellen R.E. Heinrich
Dr. Ellen R.E. Heinrich, DVM, MPH, earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Kansas State University in 2011. While staying at Kansas State University, she then worked towards her Master of Public Health with an emphasis on infectious disease and zoonosis, at the same time as her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree in 2016. Following graduation, she completed a one-year rotating small animal internship at Michigan State University. Dr. Heinrich then completed a three-year small animal internal medicine residency at Iowa State University.
Dr. Heinrich’s special interests include infectious diseases, diabetes mellitus, and One Health, which recognizes the interconnection between people, animals, and their shared environment. Figuring out what is wrong with a pet starts with listening to their story, critically evaluating diagnostic test results, and then clearly communicating possible causes and treatments. She believes collaboration with pet owners is the key to success in treating complicated or chronic conditions.
In her free time, Dr. Heinrich enjoys spending time with her husband and extended family (lots of nieces and nephews!), running marathons, reading, and attending Chiefs, Royals, and K-State games.
